SUPERIOR COURT, MACON CIRCUIT

The impact of a judge is not readily felt by the community at large. Most residents never
come in contact with the legal system. However, there are many who do and those people
must be assured that the judge they face is competent, fair, and most important, follows
the law.

There are three candidates vying for the Superior Court judgeship that covers Bibb, Peach
and Crawford counties --- the incumbent S. Phillip Brown, Lonzy Edwards, a long time
political activist who has run for political office in the past, and political newcomer
attorney Lester Miller. Fortunately, the race is nonpartisan. Both Brown and Edwards
have signed a pledge circulated among all judicial candidates in the state to refrain from
personal attacks now permitted in judicial races; Miller has not. The race, in our opinion,
comes down to Brown and Edwards. Miller, 35, needs more seasoning before he's ready
for such an important position. Edwards has been a competent advocate for may causes
over the years --- but when you stack up the legal experience and community
involvement, particularly on the educational front, neither challenger can top that of
Brown. We endorse S. Phillip Brown for Superior Court.
